Array sectionA thorough pat-down for our own protection.Amazing it was, the way they clubbed. You were allowed to be on the floor smoking bud.In the bathroom they sold blunts, cigars, and gum.Of course the bar had liquors and rum.But the club didn’t close until 4:30 in the morning. The smoke kept rising and the drinks kept pouring.Saturday afternoon was educational timeMy dad took us downtown to see what we could find. The result was the birthplace of Dr. King. And the church where he preached and did his thing. His tomb was also quite a site to seeA pool and eternal flame in his memory. We walked the street of his funeral procession. And saw two museums which provided more lessonsThe trip was the best trip I’d ever taken. So next spring, plans to return I’ll be makin’.

Unfortunately there was no more downward movement and my last lot was stopped out at 12:30.Results: 52 15 -9(spread)= 58 pips~Posted by Big Pippin

-ne Testing the New Freescale Course (16 Miles)This morning, Gilbert chose for us to explore the new Freescale Marathon course, or at least 15 miles of it, starting at about the 7 mile mark and exiting the course at the 22 mile mark, give or take a few tenths. The sun came out about halfway through, but it never got really bad.We ran comfortably early on, and negotiated the initial miles as a big group. Due to the size of our pace group, it took a while to get finished, but finally after 2:45, we were running again. We ran into another training group doing repeated loops around that neighborhood, encompassing a lot of the IBM 10K course from this year. While we were running along between that group, we picked it up a bit, but finally broke out from them by the time we reached Shoal Creek. We reached the second Powerade stop having absorbed Diana’s group, and they ran with us the rest of the way. A last GU with the Powerade, and another 2:45 type stop, and it was time for the finish.Miles 10-13.6: 8:52, 8:53, 9:01 (primarily downhill miles), 8:35 (includes some faster paced running as I crossed MLK). Overall pace 9:03.From that water stop, I got cracking, and pushed quickly up the rest of that hill and into the Capitol grounds, which will be a nice change to the course, circling the Capitol building and then flying down the steep drive and down Congress. The weather looks to be a little warm for NYC, which is too bad, but that’s just the kind of thing you can’t control. For the week, just over 43 miles running, complete compliance with gym workouts, and 5 days running. Next week starts with our first pace run in a while, the 5 EZ, 5 Pace variety. I might try the split weight routine on Monday/Tuesday, as well, doing the leg stuff after the pace run.

-ne On this date in history. This day in 1938 saw the organized destruction of Jewish businesses and homes in Munich, as well as the beating and murder of Jewish men, women, and children. It was an exercise in terror that would be called Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, because of the cost of broken glass in looted Jewish shops– million marks (,250,000).On November 7, in Paris, a 17-year-old German Jewish refugee, Herschel Grynszpan, shot and killed the third secretary of the German embassy, Ernst vom Rath. The local police were not to interfere with the rioting storm troopers, and as many Jews as possible were to be arrested with an eye toward deporting them to concentration camps. In Heydrich’s report to Hermann Goering after Kristallnacht, the damage was assessed: …815 shops destroyed, 171 dwelling houses set on fire or destroyed…119 synagogues were set on fire, and another 76 completely destroyed…20,000 Jews were arrested, 36 deaths were reported and those seriously injured were also numbered at 36….The extent of the destruction was actually greater than reported.

With Week One of the NFL season out of the way, it’s time for me to uncluttered my little monkey brain with a few observations…-Do the Panthers know that there aren’t two bye weeks in the season? Once again the Panthers have a team that begins the season with a lot of talk about their potential, but fail to actually begin the season with a win. Last year it was a home loss to the New Orleans Saints, this season, the Panthers drop their home opener to the Atlanta Falcons. There are 15 more games on the season, but watching the Falcons(now with intestinal fortitude) whip the Panthers in the trenches was not the way that Carolina fans intended on spending their first Sunday of the season. Some fans might say that it was the loss of Steve Smith before the opener that led to the loss. What was it that WR Keyshawn Johnson said? Steve Smith out

Array-ne Ed Mayer played for the Chicago Cubs for two years, in 1957 and 1958. Mayer made his pitching debut against the New York Giants and gave up two home runs – After playing for the University of California, Mayer played in the minors with the Cardinals, Red Sox and Cubs, with stops in C, B, A, AA, AAA, Mexico and Cuba before making it to the major leagues. And, all of a sudden, this round disc comes over the stadium – And I said to the guy next to me – We were just enthralled looking at it, and it stayed there silently for about 10 or 15 seconds, looking down, obviously – That made me a believer.”A HR to Willie Mays: “I gave up just two home runs in my career – And when they hit them, I said to myself – So, I threw the ball, and he hit a line drive which I thought would either be caught by the center fielder or hit the wall, but it went straight up into the stands – The best hitter I ever played against, that’s for sure. Frank Robinson, Stan Musial – I was in the low minors – it was a nickel back then – The players looked normal back then. You look at Stan Musial – any of the old guys – It’s bad for baseball, because it’s illegal, it’s no good, it’s not fair and I believe that when Bonds breaks the record it will be tainted. I never looked at anyone back then and thought, ‘Wow, he looks different.’”

*If you didn’t see it yet, don’t read on, for fear of spoilers*Okay, let’s pretend we’re out for coffee and chat away about Betty. It irked me that they made Betty a plagiarist. Betty! The world’s most honest person, who can’t keep a secret, can’t gloss the truth, who gets nightmares if she does something bad. I don’t think it’s consistent with her character in the least, insecurities notwithstanding. Furthermore, when she comes clean / is found out, the professor (played by Victor Garber who played the sleezy lawyer in Legally Blonde) doesn’t kick her out of class! What kind of a class is that, where you can heinously steal someone else’s work and saying, Im sorry,” means alls forgiven? Pissed me off. Down with plagiarists! *gets off her soapbox*I loved what they did with Alexis today. Rebecca Romijn was going to waste as a tough pseudo-Wilhelmina. Seeing her softer, vulnerable, and nurturing sides made her character much more multifaceted. It had to have taken a lot of practice to pretend to not be able to walk in heels

Array Titled The Search for Common Ground: Muslims, Non-Muslims and the UK Media, the report was commissioned by Livingstone’s Greater London Authority. In short, the media’s irresponsible coverage of Muslim issues is a threat to social cohesion and a potential harbinger of violence. In fact, the report uses questionable, one might even say dodgy methodology to show that the media are continually ‘abusing’ That report came out on Friday 12 May. Not surprisingly, there was a huge amount of press coverage, and not surprisingly most of it was ‘negative’, in the sense that it was about four British-born Muslims who blew up themselves and 52 others in London a year earlier; Naseem was sentenced to 15 months in prison in the week selected by the researchers (on 12 May 2006), and because his name (Naseem Hamed) is obviously Muslim, and because the stories (on dangerous driving) are obviously negative, they are added to the pile of evidence that the media are abusing Muslims. The contributors to Livingstone’s report include Inayat Bunglawala of the Muslim Council of Britain, Mohammed Abdul Aziz of the Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism, and Tariq Hameed, who writes reports for the Muslim Council of Britain on how journalists should cover Muslim affairs. bit of News at Ten across the whole news agenda, Ken’s researchers label everything from coverage of Prince Naseem to the war in Iraq as overly negative, and demand more positive stories on Muslim affairs. This is a demand for the press to overhaul its agenda, for journalists to shift their focus, change their language, and, as the report says, ‘contribute to informed discussion and debate amongst Muslims and non-Muslims about ways of working together to maintain and develop Britain as a multicultural, multifaith democracy’ It speaks volumes about Livingstone’s arrogance and contempt for public debate that he would like to, if only he had the power, turn the press into an offshoot of his political fiefdom. So, the demonisation of Muslims in the media does not normally consist of articles attacking or slurring Muslims – On the Daily Express website they find that web-users have written things like ‘I am sick to the back teeth of hearing about Muslims this and Muslims that’; The Islamophobia agenda, as pushed by central government, the GLA, the police, various self-selected Muslim community groups and, as it happens, large sections of the media itself, is underpinned by a poisonous view of the masses as irrational and given to violent outbursts, and Muslims as pathetic victims who need heroic Ken and his handpicked Muslim community warriors to protect them. for the employment of ‘more journalists of Muslim heritage who can more accurately reflect the views and experiences of Muslim communities’; These are explicit demands for increased government intervention into the press, and anyone who believes in the freedom of the press should rigorously oppose them and hope that the government ignores them.Of course there are vast problems with the British press, its tendency to scaremonger about the threat of terrorism amongst them. Marx said: ‘The free press remains good even when its products are bad, because these products are deviations from the nature of a free press, [while] the censored press remains bad, even when its products are good, because these products are only good insofar as they represent the free press within the censored press’ and his report goes so far as to suggest who the media should employ: more Muslims, who apparently have the expertise and the loyalty to uphold the multicultural vision. There is something archaically tyrannical in Livingstone’s vision for the press: on the basis of questionable findings, he and his supporters express their desire to cajole the media into promoting the Livingstone vision for society, which is the ‘building and maintenance of Britain as a multicultural society’ Visit his website here.(1) See Hands up if you’re suffering from Islamofatigue, by Brendan O’Neill(2) Communication and Freedom: Karl Marx on Press Freedom and Censorship, Hanno Hardt, The Public, Vol.7 (2000)(3) Communication and Freedom: Karl Marx on Press Freedom and Censorship, Hanno Hardt, The Public, Vol.7 (2000)(4) Communication and Freedom: Karl Marx on Press Freedom and Censorship, Hanno Hardt, The Public, Vol.7 (2000)

Emma Payne had acquired the property June 15, 1945 (Deed Book 120 Page 350).The cheapest properties were the ones where the owners negotiated a deal to avoid condemnation. The Housing Authority paid ,500 for Lot 11 from Mary C. A 1944 deed lists 18 paragraphs of properties and the donation of land for Ware Street extension to extend 4th Street SE and connect Garrett Street and Elliott Avenue for the 1929 Ix textile factory (Deed Book 64 Page 43, Dec 20, 1928). Tooley (deed Book 133 P 231, Aug. 5, 1947).Tooley, a widow, negotiated with the Housing Authority and settled at ,500 for the lot and “dwelling house thereon” and title was transferred on Aug. 23, 1971 (Deed Book 329 P 173).After 35 years, what does it all mean? There’s a risk that an owner could bring suit today and argue that the Levy site was not “necessary in the development of an urban renewal project.” Other projects were developed nearby. As a 35-year-old parking lot, the 0.846-acre consolidated parcel is now assessed at 49,300.When I requested from the Housing Authority the deed numbers for Levy Avenue, Randy Bickers gave me the deeds for the 1971 acquisitions. When I requested the remaining deeds, Bickers referred the request to the city’s legal department.Thursday afternoon, after I published my previous update, Barbara Ronan of the legal department called me and gave me the other three deed numbers from a Nov. 5, 2005 title search. How do you describe the shock that a country bumpkin like me gets when arriving in city like Hong Kong. Let me describe my six days of amazement in Hong Kong.Day 1: Friday Night. There are lots of white people everywhere and there are lots of Hong Kong people everywhere. We follow him around the mall, end up at a long taxi line and eventually jump into the one of what must be 100,000 taxis driving around Hong Kong. Up the hill we go, zig zagging up concrete canyons, my nose stuck to the window as 30 story building is followed by 50 story building is followed by 43 story building and so one for a good while. I didn’t know it too much before, but Hong Kong isn’t just a big city. Hong Kong is actually a series of islands with the majority of the city built up on small sections of two of them. This link is built by a Hong Kong climber Stuart. Very friendly and has created a great community in Hong Kong.[Hiking to the crag] On this day, the plan was to go to Tung Lung Island and climb at the Technical Wall. Hong Kong has this wonderful mix of organized cosmopolitan city with rustic Asian chaos. We took the escalator down the hill (more on this later) hopped a taxi in front of starbucks, went on the modern freeway along the water, and then jumped on a little chinese ferry/ fishing boat for a 30 minute ride out to the island. Off the boat, hike a path for 15 minutes, stop at a ramshackle hut for dumplings and lemon tea, then hike another 10 minutes back down to the water to Hong Kong’s premier sport climbing and social scene. Another surreal place with boulders hovering over the suburbs of Hong Kong. Hong Kong folks- no problem. I was told one thing I had to do while in Hong Kong was hike up The Peak. The Peak is the hill right behind Hong Kong. Hong Kong is very dense. Because some genius figured out that Hong Kong could install a whole series of escalators that go down the hill in the morning and up the hill the rest of the time. [Minutes after the big moment] The rest of the day was spent checking out touristy things, eating noodles and going to Mong Kok, the Chinese part of town for dinner and climbing anchor hardware. Great climbing with an amazing view of Hong Kong.We finish climbing reverse the commute back into town, again dodging people in suits and arrive at Kevin’s in time for some yummy chinese food at this little dumpling place.Day 6: Another tourist day. I was checked out like a library book while visiting this local haunt. And then on the 7th day, we left Hong Kong.

Thailand Marathon Information: The 8 Decade of Rajabhat Phetchaburi Marathon Photo

Array When Simon came and saw the miracles and wonders Phillip was performing, Verse 13 records that Simon himself believed and was baptized. This new found faith seems to last only five verses.Act 8:18 Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,Act 8:19 saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. Peter not only refuses the money, he refuses to have anything to do with Simon. What did Peter see in Simon that caused him to reject not only his request, but to reject Simon? It may come down to what Simon actually had faith in.The Greek words used in Chapter 2 of Acts to describe the change in new believers is apodechomai, which means to accept gladly or joyfully. Rather that glorifying the one who performed the miracle, Simon worked to gain that glory for himself.Historical records show that the Simon in this account is probably the Gnostic leader known as Simon Magus.

This is because in that type of discussion Mr. Coyle reads a short story to the class that we then discuss in class, and I, first of all, enjoy listening to short stories, but I also prefer it because it is easier for me to respond to a story when it is fresh in my mind, as is the case in touchstone Discussions.

Becoming Ironman: Again: 8 Mile Road

October 13th, 2008 by admin

Array-ne March S&P Futures:  I think the market is headed for 1320. March 10 Year Notes: Resistance is now at 108-04 while the next support level beneath the market is at 107-10. Google: The Barron’s cover story on GOOG will provide us with a good test of the market.  I still don’t think this bull market is over and I think we’ll see GOOG hold support at 348, the 3 5/8 multiple of the lowest trade price, 95.96.

-ne In addition to the previous musical genres mentioned, there are other styles that I have listened to. I can listen to classical music and enjoy it, but it is not music I would choose to listen to. There was a time that I listened to Classic Rock and it was the station here in Montreal that I listened to since I could not find another that interested me. There was a time that I was really into Blues and Jazz listening to them almost exclusively. Then there are the styles that hold no interest for me. Oddly, some of the music I listen to (Nitzerebb, Pailhead, Nine Inch Nails) has those qualities.

-ne I had an 8 mile run yesterday, one more mile than last week’s long run. Yesterday’s breakdown went like this:Mile 1: 8:58 pace, HR N/A (was having problems with the effing monitor…)Mile 2: 9:03 pace, HR 155Mile 3 (drinking): 9:59 pace, HR 148Mile 4: 8:55 pace, HR 160Mile 5 (drinking): 10:03 pace, HR 153Mile 6: 8:53 pace, HR 162Mile 7 (drinking): 10:13 pace, HR 151Mile 8: 8:55 pace, HR 163Total averages: 9:22 pace, HR 157So many things to be encouraged about: My average pace is actually 2 seconds faster than last week’s pace of 9:24. My non-drinking miles were all - except for mile 2 (which might not be accurate, I was having technology issues the first 2 miles. And I never went anaerobic, so I had room to move.Consider that I suffered through the 2004 Twin Cities 10 Mile for a pace of 8:58, and that I’m doing 30 seconds slower that than, this early in the season but comfortably, and I feel really good. So I’m not looking to be going 9:00 pace in every race this season, or through the Ironman marathon - but the faster I can go at a lower heartrate, the more efficient I’m being, and the stronger run I’ll have.
