Array Titled The Search for Common Ground: Muslims, Non-Muslims and the UK Media, the report was commissioned by Livingstone’s Greater London Authority. In short, the media’s irresponsible coverage of Muslim issues is a threat to social cohesion and a potential harbinger of violence. In fact, the report uses questionable, one might even say dodgy methodology to show that the media are continually ‘abusing’ That report came out on Friday 12 May. Not surprisingly, there was a huge amount of press coverage, and not surprisingly most of it was ‘negative’, in the sense that it was about four British-born Muslims who blew up themselves and 52 others in London a year earlier; Naseem was sentenced to 15 months in prison in the week selected by the researchers (on 12 May 2006), and because his name (Naseem Hamed) is obviously Muslim, and because the stories (on dangerous driving) are obviously negative, they are added to the pile of evidence that the media are abusing Muslims. The contributors to Livingstone’s report include Inayat Bunglawala of the Muslim Council of Britain, Mohammed Abdul Aziz of the Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism, and Tariq Hameed, who writes reports for the Muslim Council of Britain on how journalists should cover Muslim affairs. bit of News at Ten across the whole news agenda, Ken’s researchers label everything from coverage of Prince Naseem to the war in Iraq as overly negative, and demand more positive stories on Muslim affairs. This is a demand for the press to overhaul its agenda, for journalists to shift their focus, change their language, and, as the report says, ‘contribute to informed discussion and debate amongst Muslims and non-Muslims about ways of working together to maintain and develop Britain as a multicultural, multifaith democracy’ It speaks volumes about Livingstone’s arrogance and contempt for public debate that he would like to, if only he had the power, turn the press into an offshoot of his political fiefdom. So, the demonisation of Muslims in the media does not normally consist of articles attacking or slurring Muslims – On the Daily Express website they find that web-users have written things like ‘I am sick to the back teeth of hearing about Muslims this and Muslims that’; The Islamophobia agenda, as pushed by central government, the GLA, the police, various self-selected Muslim community groups and, as it happens, large sections of the media itself, is underpinned by a poisonous view of the masses as irrational and given to violent outbursts, and Muslims as pathetic victims who need heroic Ken and his handpicked Muslim community warriors to protect them. for the employment of ‘more journalists of Muslim heritage who can more accurately reflect the views and experiences of Muslim communities’; These are explicit demands for increased government intervention into the press, and anyone who believes in the freedom of the press should rigorously oppose them and hope that the government ignores them.Of course there are vast problems with the British press, its tendency to scaremonger about the threat of terrorism amongst them. Marx said: ‘The free press remains good even when its products are bad, because these products are deviations from the nature of a free press, [while] the censored press remains bad, even when its products are good, because these products are only good insofar as they represent the free press within the censored press’ and his report goes so far as to suggest who the media should employ: more Muslims, who apparently have the expertise and the loyalty to uphold the multicultural vision. There is something archaically tyrannical in Livingstone’s vision for the press: on the basis of questionable findings, he and his supporters express their desire to cajole the media into promoting the Livingstone vision for society, which is the ‘building and maintenance of Britain as a multicultural society’ Visit his website here.(1) See Hands up if you’re suffering from Islamofatigue, by Brendan O’Neill(2) Communication and Freedom: Karl Marx on Press Freedom and Censorship, Hanno Hardt, The Public, Vol.7 (2000)(3) Communication and Freedom: Karl Marx on Press Freedom and Censorship, Hanno Hardt, The Public, Vol.7 (2000)(4) Communication and Freedom: Karl Marx on Press Freedom and Censorship, Hanno Hardt, The Public, Vol.7 (2000)

Emma Payne had acquired the property June 15, 1945 (Deed Book 120 Page 350).The cheapest properties were the ones where the owners negotiated a deal to avoid condemnation. The Housing Authority paid ,500 for Lot 11 from Mary C. A 1944 deed lists 18 paragraphs of properties and the donation of land for Ware Street extension to extend 4th Street SE and connect Garrett Street and Elliott Avenue for the 1929 Ix textile factory (Deed Book 64 Page 43, Dec 20, 1928). Tooley (deed Book 133 P 231, Aug. 5, 1947).Tooley, a widow, negotiated with the Housing Authority and settled at ,500 for the lot and âdwelling house thereonâ and title was transferred on Aug. 23, 1971 (Deed Book 329 P 173).After 35 years, what does it all mean?Thereâs a risk that an owner could bring suit today and argue that the Levy site was not ânecessary in the development of an urban renewal project.â Other projects were developed nearby. As a 35-year-old parking lot, the 0.846-acre consolidated parcel is now assessed at 49,300.When I requested from the Housing Authority the deed numbers for Levy Avenue, Randy Bickers gave me the deeds for the 1971 acquisitions. When I requested the remaining deeds, Bickers referred the request to the cityâs legal department.Thursday afternoon, after I published my previous update, Barbara Ronan of the legal department called me and gave me the other three deed numbers from a Nov. 5, 2005 title search. How do you describe the shock that a country bumpkin like me gets when arriving in city like Hong Kong. Let me describe my six days of amazement in Hong Kong.Day 1: Friday Night. There are lots of white people everywhere and there are lots of Hong Kong people everywhere. We follow him around the mall, end up at a long taxi line and eventually jump into the one of what must be 100,000 taxis driving around Hong Kong. Up the hill we go, zig zagging up concrete canyons, my nose stuck to the window as 30 story building is followed by 50 story building is followed by 43 story building and so one for a good while. I didn’t know it too much before, but Hong Kong isn’t just a big city. Hong Kong is actually a series of islands with the majority of the city built up on small sections of two of them. This link is built by a Hong Kong climber Stuart. Very friendly and has created a great community in Hong Kong.[Hiking to the crag] On this day, the plan was to go to Tung Lung Island and climb at the Technical Wall. Hong Kong has this wonderful mix of organized cosmopolitan city with rustic Asian chaos. We took the escalator down the hill (more on this later) hopped a taxi in front of starbucks, went on the modern freeway along the water, and then jumped on a little chinese ferry/ fishing boat for a 30 minute ride out to the island. Off the boat, hike a path for 15 minutes, stop at a ramshackle hut for dumplings and lemon tea, then hike another 10 minutes back down to the water to Hong Kong’s premier sport climbing and social scene. Another surreal place with boulders hovering over the suburbs of Hong Kong. Hong Kong folks- no problem. I was told one thing I had to do while in Hong Kong was hike up The Peak. The Peak is the hill right behind Hong Kong. Hong Kong is very dense. Because some genius figured out that Hong Kong could install a whole series of escalators that go down the hill in the morning and up the hill the rest of the time. [Minutes after the big moment] The rest of the day was spent checking out touristy things, eating noodles and going to Mong Kok, the Chinese part of town for dinner and climbing anchor hardware. Great climbing with an amazing view of Hong Kong.We finish climbing reverse the commute back into town, again dodging people in suits and arrive at Kevin’s in time for some yummy chinese food at this little dumpling place.Day 6: Another tourist day. I was checked out like a library book while visiting this local haunt. And then on the 7th day, we left Hong Kong.
